Named Bishop of La Crosse, Wisconsin – U.S.A.

The Holy Father has named Bishop William Patrick Callahan of the Franciscan Order of the Friars Minor Conventual, as Bishop of La Crosse, Wisconsin, in the U.S.A.

Named Titular Bishop of Lares and Auxiliary of Milwaukee, Wisconsin on October 30, 2007, he was ordained to the Episcopacy on December 21, 2007.

Following the transfer of Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan to the Archdiocese of New York, Bishop Callahan became the Administrator for the Archdiocese of Milwaukee from April 20, 2009 through January 4, 2010. He is also a member of the “Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life, and Vocations” for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
