Consecration of the Altar for the Church of St. Anthony of Padua and the Blessing of St. Joseph Friary in Bacau, Romania

May 12, 2008 - The second day of Pentecost was one of profound faith and solemnity for the Province of St. Joseph in Romania.

In the presence of the Minister General and the Ministers of the CIMP, meeting this week in Romania, a solemn Eucharistic celebration was held for the consecration of the altar of the new Conventual Franciscan Church of St. Anthony of Padua, and the blessing of the new seat of the Provincial Curia, the Friary of St. Joseph in Bacau.

The celebration was presided over by Bishop Petru Gherghel, Bishop of Iasi, and concelebrated by Bishop Anton Cosa, Bishop of Chisinau (Republic of Moldavia); Bishop Aurel Perca, Auxiliary Bishop of Iasi; Bishop Cornel Damian, Auxiliary Bishop of Bucharest, Friar Marco Tasca, Minister General, Friar Ion Ciuraru, Minister Provincial of Romania, the Ministers Provincial of the CIMP, and some 100 priests. Local authorities were also present along with many religious and faithful.

For this occasion, the Mayor of the city of Bacau decreed that the name of the street on which the new church and Friary are located would be changed to “Saint Anthony”.
