In July of 2010 Friar Michael Lasky, OFM Conv.  joined the staff of Franciscans International – our NGO at the United Nations, as the Interim Regional Coordinator of the Americas, and Director of the New York office.  He is a member of the St. Anthony of Padua Province – USA.

Following ordination to the priesthood in May 2000 Friar Mike was assigned as campus minister and faculty member at St. Francis High School in Athol Springs, New York.  In 2005 he was invited to take on Campus Ministry at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury, Connecticut, where he established the "Step into the World in New York City/Geneva" program which partnered the university with Franciscans International at the United Nations, and which was just recently awarded the Catholic Campus Ministry Outstanding Program Award in the category of Educating for Justice. While Friar Mike knew the importance of college students experiencing direct service to the poor (traveling with them from the streets of New York City, to the hills of Jamaica and the desert of Peru) he also recognized the importance of educating them in the school of advocacy and international relations as it affects the poor and marginalized.

Friar Mike has also been appointed to the Board of Directors for the International Catholic Organization, which coordinated the advocacy work of all of the Catholic groups working at the United Nations.
