New Custos of the Orient and the Holy Land

The Retreat House of Our Lady of Pozzo, Beirut, Lebanon, October 7. 2010: The first Ordinary Custodial Chapter of the newly erected Provincial Custody of the Orient and the Holy Land, met in the presence of the Minister General, Friar Marco TASCA, the Assistant General of CIMP, Friar Valentín REDONDO, and the Minister Provincial of the Mother Province of Romania, Friar Emilian CĂTĂLIN.  Friar César ESSAYAN was elected the first Provincial Custos.

The Custodial Chapter went on to elect the members of the Custodial Definitory: Friar Anton BULAJ, Custodial Vicar; Friar Iosif PETRILĂ, Custodial Secreatry, FRIAR Roger KOUYOUMDJI, Definitor.
Friar Atanazy SULIK, was elected Custodial Treasurer.

Previously, the Minister General, on June 25, 2010, with the unanimous consent of his Definitory, - hearing the agreement of the Friars inscribed in the General Delegation of the Orient and the Holy Land, - accepting the favorable decision of the Extraordinary Provincial Chapter of the Province of Romania to assume the responsibility for the presence of the Order in Lebanon and Turkey, decreed:

(I) the suppression of the General Delegation of the Orient and the Holy Land, and, consequently,
(II) the passing of the five erected Friaries and those Friars inscribed in the Delegation to the Romanian Province of St. Joseph. As well as, on the same date,
(III) acceded to the erection of the new Provincial Custody of the Orient and the Holy Land, as part of the Province of Romania.

With the decree of June 25, 2010, the Minister Provincial of Romania formally erected the Custody and convoked the first Custodial Chapter for the days of October 6, 2010 and following.
