Canvas of St. Joseph of Cupertino

E-mail Print

During the month of February, 2010, the Office of the Carabinieri for the Protection of the Cultural Patrimony recovered a canvas showing St. Joseph of Cupertino in ecstasy before a statue of the Virgin Mary.

Even though they are constantly updating the list of stolen art, the Office does not seem to be able to determine the ownership of this canvas at this time. If it does belong to our Order, they are asking us if we are able to determine the Church (maybe a present church of our Order, or a previous one) from which it may have been taken.

We are passing this request on to all of the Friars: if anyone is aware of the church from which this canvas was stolen, please relate that information. Please pass on any information and from whom it comes.

In the event that you suspect that there is a false canvas or a copy still in a particular location, pass that information on as well.
