The St. Bonaventure Community and the Pontifical Faculty of St. Bonaventure (Seraphicum), Rome have been once again visited by “Sister Death” after the departure of Fr. Alfonso Pompei just a month ago.

In fact, our beloved Fr. Luigi Iammarrone passed away on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 after a very short illness from Irreversible Cerebral Haemorrhage. He passed away at St. Eugene Hospital, Rome and was comforted by the prayers and presence of the friars, family members and friends.

Fr. Luigi Iammarrone, Lecturer Emeritus of our Theological Pontifical Faculty, was born on August 19, 1923 at Campo Lieto (CB), Italy. He attended his religious formation at Sacro Convento, Assisi: First Profession July 18, 1941; ordained priest March 3, 1948. He attended his theological studies in Rome and Lovanium (Belgium). At the Pontifical Faculty of Theology of St. Bonaventure he received his Doctoral Degree. He dedicated his life as a lecturer of Theology and Philosophy in Assisi until 1965 and then in Rome.

He was a theologian able to unite knowledge and life in the field of Spirituality. For more than 50 years he shaped generations of our friars and was engaged preparing numerous lay and religious people in their spiritual upliftment no matter their cultural level was, rich or poor, intellectual or workers, always with wisdom and Franciscan simplicity.

We entrust him to Our Lady, Mary Immaculate, whom he love very much, and to the intercession of St. Francis so that he can enjoy fully the eternal love of the Blessed Trinity whom he honored though his prayers, studies and teachings.

The funeral will take place in the chapel of Seraphicum, Rome on Friday, September 4, 2009 at 10:00 A.M.
