General Visitation of Australia

Friar John-Joseph Dolan, OFM Conv., General Assistant for the Conference of North America, Britain and Ireland, conducted the general visitation of the Custody of Our Lady, Help of Christians from the 8th through the 19th of May, 2009. He visited four friaries and 15 friars.

Prior to the visitation, while he was in the United States for a jubilee, he was able to visit the friar of the custody working in the Marian Apostolate at Maytown. Upon his return to Rome, he met with the Assistant General for the Federation of Asia and Australia, and the student-friar studying there.  The major themes of the visitation were the quality of fraternal life in the friaries, the mission in Vietnam, and the possible future restructuring of the Custody and its presences and ministries. He met with the custodial definitory before and after the visitation. Friary chapters were held in each house in which any local issues were dealt with. He also used this time to share any news of the Order in Rome or at large, especially emphasizing the call of the general chapter for formation for mission, and the minister general’s exhortation to live our charism radically in fraternity.
