Petuj, June 23, 2008 – An Extraordinary Chapter was held at the Friary of Sts. Peter and Paul in Ptuj, Solvenia, on June 23, 2008.

The Chapter was called to make some decisions concerning the reorganization of some of the Friaries for vocation work and continuing education of the laity in the Franciscan Charism. After a great deal of discussion, three conclusions were reached which received a large majority of the vote.

The Chapter decided:

  1. On the occasion of the 8th Centenary celebration of the Franciscan Charism, the Slovenian Province of St. Joseph decided to make Franciscan Spiritual Formation a priority in their Retreat Centers.
  2. At the Friary of the Most Holy Trinity in Haloze, a house will be built as a Retreat Center and it will also be of service to the Parochial Ministry. In the same Friary, a space will be developed for a Chapel, and a private area for the Friars to live.
  3. The two sides of the Friary in Olimje, not presently used, will be restructured as a Retreat Center.

During the Chapter, several Friars of the Province celebrated their anniversaries of Priestly Ordination at the noon Mass. The Presider was Friar Janko  Gašparić and the Homilist was Friar Martin Kmetec, both celebrating 25 years of Priesthood. During the luncheon, all of the Friars celebrating their Name Day in June were honored.
